Appearance
The layout and design of a website is a surprisingly influential aspect of its effectiveness. If it has a look that hooks, web surfers will be back again and again. Think of some of your favourite websites and then consider how it is that they meet the criteria for great web design
- Are the colours, backgrounds, and side bars consistent and appealing? You should always know you’re still on the same website through use of common elements.
- Are headings brief and engaging? Web surfers need their information quick and easy. Precise titles are necessary.
- Is the information that’s provided straight to the point and organized into small chunks such as lists, and short paragraphs? Long drawn out text will lose Internet readers.
- Are the images, photographs, and other visuals interesting, useful and appealing? Great images can make a site truly beautiful.
- Do you have to scroll down and down and down some more to get to the information you need? Many Internet surfers will give up if they have to scroll down a long, long roll of online text, referred to as “toilet paper.”
