Think of all the different ways in which we communicate with one another. We exchange ideas and information through speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. Our communication can be formal or informal, quick or lengthy, fun or serious. But no matter how we communicate with each other, there are important skills we need to know in order to give and receive information.
Think of it this way: when you are learning any new skill, you begin with the basics. Before you can drive, you need to learn the rules of the road. You also need to learn about the vehicle itself - how it works. There are agreed upon signs and rules that are meant to help people as they drive. It's no different in our daily communication. There are basic rules we all need to know and critical skills we all need to have.
This module is designed to help you better develop those skills that are so important in communication of any kind. If you focus on these skills, you are certain to be understood by others, as well as be understanding of others.
