Section 1.2 Assignment Part A: Getting Ready to Write

Introduction

Completing a mind map is a great way to organize ideas. A mind map helps you to visualize your topic before you begin to write. Listing is also effective. Both strategies help you to get your ideas onto the page before writing, and both help you to organize these ideas as well.

Instructions

Complete the "Writing Process Template" using the strategies previously described in Writing on the Run! - mind mapping and listing. You can select an idea from the list below, or use your own main idea.

As you complete the assignment template, address the following points. You can make these up.

Purpose: What's your goal - to entertain, persuade, explain, describe?

Audience: Whom do you intend to read this composition - your teacher, parent, friend?

Topic: What topic will you be developing?

Format: Will you be writing a paragraph, a multi-paragraph composition, or creating something like a PowerPoint presentation?

Getting Ready to Write - Your Turn

Your template will be marked on thoroughness. Make sure you've completed every section and that you have used enough details for your teacher to know you've understood your writing topic. This template should be completed so that it could easily be written as a solid, well-developed paragraph.
