Discovering Poetry
Poetry. No! Poetry? Yes, poetry!
Many students run screaming in all directions when they hear the "P" word. It's understandable. Poetry comes in so many shapes and forms, and uses so many literary devices, that it is easy to get lost in all the rhyme and reason of a poem. In this section you will learn how to approach poems in a way that will make reading and writing about poetry trouble-free! You will review basic literary terms, consider many of the forms of poetry, and learn about how to discuss important aspects of poetry such as theme and symbolism.
In this section you will be asked to create a literary terms study guide, write a paragraph about the theme of a poem, make a creative collage, and develop and write a formal response to poetry.
