Section 4.3 Assignment Part B: Head, Heart, and Hands - A Visual Character Sketch

Introduction

Typically a character sketch is a written exercise where several paragraphs describe what a character thinks, feels, and does. In this character sketch, however, you will be asked to create a visual representation of these traits.

You will be working with three symbols:

the head as a symbol of the rational mind, the thoughts, and understandings the narrator has about the world around him
the heart as a symbol of the emotional mind, the feelings, and changing emotional world of the character
the hands as a symbol of actions and what a character does

Instructions

Develop a visual presentation to represent the head, heart, and hands of the narrator of "To Everything there is a Season." The presentation can be a poster, a collage, a website, a booklet, a slide show, a stack of cards, a diorama - any platform for a visual presentation will do.

You must find a way to include all of the following elements:

a one-word character trait description for the head, the heart, and the hand (3 total)
the head, heart, and hand shapes—you might simply use the shapes below, or create your own symbols
two quotations from the story to represent each of the head, heart, and hands of the character
images, drawings, colours, or photos to further represent the head, heart, and hands of the character
