Section 4.3:
The Short Story
Tell me a story! Storytelling has been around since humans could communicate, but the modern short story has really existed only since the 1800s. To fully understand and appreciate short stories, you must also know about how plot, character, point of view, setting, atmosphere, and theme function in this narrative form. In this section, you will learn the basics of how to recognize the various parts of a short story and how to write about short stories. You will also learn about how the news reports stories. Finally, you will be challenged to become a storywriter yourself.
You will have to complete four assignments in this section: a short story comparison, a visual character sketch, a newspaper article, as well as journal writing.
