In Section 5.2 you watched Zeffirelli's movie version of Romeo and Juliet as you read through the play. In that section, you were asked to complete the "Previewing" section of the chart titled “How to Watch a Movie.” You will complete this chart in the next part of this module project.

Part B: Movie Review - Written Work

A movie review is a persuasive piece of writing in which the writer expresses his or her opinion about a movie. Movie reviews appear in newspapers and magazines, online on movie or news sites, and even on blogs. Most movie reviews follow a predictable pattern. One of the most important things, however, is to not give away important parts, like the climax or ending. It is also important to be persuasive and use persuasive language.

A good idea would be to read some movie reviews to see how they are organized and written, in terms of structure, tone, and style. Movie reviews are available on the internet, or in newspapers and magazines (often a Thursday or Friday edition, and sometimes on a Saturday).

Remember, you can always go back to watch the movie again, or watch key scenes a second time if you need to.

Write a movie review of Romeo and Juliet. Your review should follow the outline provided below. Your review should be approximately 250 words.

Part C: Movie Review - Visual Presentation

Movie reviews are published pieces of writing. Many movie reviews appear weekly in newspapers and magazines. Other reviews appear on websites and in blogs. A good movie review, especially one published in a magazine or newspaper, is visually appealing. Publishers use various elements of layout and design during publication.

Instructions:

Format your movie review completed in Part B of this module project so that it looks like it has been published in a newspaper. Some word processing programs will have newsletter templates that will be similar in appearance to a real newspaper. Using a template already on your computer will make the layout easier.
