Module 1: Career Investigation |
You are obviously interested in an apprenticeship. Apprenticeship is paid, work-based training, usually combined with post-secondary education. Usually, about 80-85% of an apprenticeship is made up of work-based training and the other 15-20% is made up of technical training taken in a classroom or shop setting. Most apprenticeship programs require four years to complete, but they can range from one to five years.
If you are interested in doing an apprenticeship you must find a sponsor. Once you have a sponsor you will need to complete an Apprentice and Sponsor Registration form. This form creates an agreement between and the sponsor that gets sent to ITA Customer Service who will assign you a trades worker identification number so you can officially start your apprenticeship.
The largest part of an apprenticeship is the work-based training component. It is hoped that your sponsor or employer exposes you to all aspects of a trade and that they ensure a well-qualified individual oversees an apprentice's work and training. Your sponsor is responsible for submitting a work Based Training report form to ITA to verify the hours you have worked. ITA will send a request to your sponsor at least twice a year.
